ASL Activities

Well it seems "I'm a day late and a dollar short" as they say with this blog.  It was supposed to have been written yesterday but...obviously it wasn't.

Yesterday while on Twitter I read a tweet by @mrmslp (aka Michael Martel) referencing this cute website that focuses on signing activities.
http://discovertechnology.com/American-Sign-Language/signing_for_little_hands.htm  This is their mission statement: "to create and administer adaptive technology labs for persons with disabilities, to encourage communication between persons with or without disabilities and to educate the general population about the disabled population."
Discover Technology provides many services for the disabled population.  They are putting computers in the hands of persons with disabilities and low income families in the Houston TX area. They offer a pen pal program for the disabled population called Discover A Pal.  They offer sets of activities for ASL American Sign Language   These activities are downloads you can purchase at very reasonable prices.  Let me tell you about a few and you can decide for yourself if you think it's worth your time to peruse their site.
This may not be the number 1 go to site for information on signing but it does offer some very user friendly materials.

Learn To sign With Your Baby teaches 250 ASL words or vocabulary related to: bedtime, bath, body parts, car ride, food, play time, wake up time, positive sayings, discipline
statements, and extra needed vocabulary.

Toddlers ASL Activity Coloring Book with ASL Flashcards this is useful in teaching kids the manual alphabet and to finger spell.

Kids ASL Coloring Book with Flash Cards teaches kids to finger spell words.

ASL Finger Spelling Worksheets this gives kids much needed practice in finger spelling.

ASL Finger Spelling Word Search Puzzels these are regular word search puzzles with the manual alphabet instead of letters.

Complete Idiot's Guide to Learning Sign Language I think is self explanatory.

So as you can see this is a good resource to keep.  Michael Martel also suggested you could use these to make your own boggle type activities.  Great idea!  Thanks Michael for sharing this site with us!

Just random thoughts

We were blessed with good travel weather in going to and coming from the Kentucky Speech Language Hearing Conference in Louisville last week. We were spared the big snow!! Our new language games were very well received by those who came by to see what new things we had to offer this year.  As always happens, those SLPs, who had previously purchased our FAME Articulation Workbook on CD, were very enthusiastic about purchasing the FAME Preschool Workbook or the FAME Artic Cards on CD stating how much they love and use the first one they bought.  To hear those comments makes our hearts sing :)  We love knowing you appreciate, like, and use our products in your daily work!!!

As many of you know, I am retired and worked all my years in West Virginia and Kentucky, so I have worked with a ton of SLPs.  I am always so excited to get to visit with many of you old friends.  I love catching up on what's going on in your lives!  Now that I have started blogging my circle of friends has broadened with a whole new bunch of SLPs!!  I am thrilled when you come by our booth and say I'm so & so and I read your blog...or that you love our blog!  I get excited about meeting you and am thinking of you as I write these words.  :)

Today is President's Day and of course I forgot.  I went to a federal building only to find it closed....then tried to ship a couple of orders at the post office...DUH?  I probably should be ashamed to share that I have just emailed 220 pdf copies of our Abe & George game in the past week, yet still forget it's a federal holiday!  Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this.

Our new language games are now available online at our website www.2galsspeechproducts.com  Go take a look at what we've come up with to add some fun to your language therapy!

Have a fun week with your kids!

A President's Day gift for you

Hello Everyone!  Shew, this is a busy time of year! Getting all the tax information gathered, hand making new games to be launched, updating the website (still in progress), preparing for a conference in Kentucky next week etc., etc., etc., but we love it!

I truly hate that I have let the blog go to a back burner, so to make it up to you we want to GIVE you our Abe & George president's day game.  We have removed the game from our website so it is no longer for sale as a ready made game, so to receive your free pdf of the game, you'll have to email me (dean@2galsspeechproducts.com) and request it.  Sorry but I will also have to limit the time this offer will be available.  You can email me from now until Monday Feb 20th-Presidents Day.  I'll email you the pdf and you can make it for yourself :)

Here is a picture of the game.  It is one of our original products and we would appreciate you acknowledging where the idea came from, should you chose to share this pdf.  Simply cite the source as coming from 2 Gals Speech Products.

Leah and I can hardly wait to begin sharing our new language games with you!  So be sure to watch for our post next week announcing them!!

As we always say, enjoy your kids in therapy!
